Steamed Dumplings

Watching street food videos on YouTube, I've always wanted to try Korean dumplings.

Although they aren't authentic Korean, I tried my best to make these Korean-inspired steamed dumplings.

Hope you guys like it!

Ingredients:

- Minced pork (approx. 500g - 600g)

- Korean vermicelli noodles (these are the ones used in making Japchae as well)

*If you can't find the Korean noodles, you can always use other brands such as the one shown in the picture. As long as they are the 'glass noodles' type, it's fine.

- Half of an onion; minced

- 3 cloves of garlic; grated

- 1 tsp grated ginger

- Spring onions, chopped

- Chives, chopped

For seasonings:

- 1 tsp Tsuyu sauce (this is the same soup base used for cold Japanese soba)

- 1 tsp Japanese cooking rice wine (If you are making Chinese dumplings, use Chinese cooking wine)

- 1 tbsp Japanese soy sauce

- 1 tbsp sesame oil

- Dumpling wraps

- All-purpose flour

Method:

1. Prepare all the ingredients. For the noodles, place into boiling water until cooked and then immediately place in to ice-cold water (this helps to maintain the chewiness of the noodle). Then, use a kitchen scissors to randomly cut the noodles into tiny pieces.

2. In a mixing bowl, mix all the ingredients together (except the all-purpose flour).

3. Now, we need to prepare for wrapping the dumplings.

What you need: a bowl of water

: a large plate with some all-purpose flour sprinkled on top

*the flour prevents the dumplings from sticking to the plate.

4. Wrap the dumplings and they are ready to be steamed! You need to steam them on high heat for 20-30 minutes; check whether they are fully cooked after 20 minutes to see if you need to steam them longer.
